Mission

The mission of Forgotten Harvest is to relieve hunger in the Detroit metropolitan
community by rescuing prepared and perishable food and donating it to emergency
food providers.

Established

Forgotten Harvest was formed in 1990 to fight two problems: hunger and waste.

What we do

Forgotten Harvest currently rescues 9.5 million pounds of food per year by
collecting surplus prepared and perishable food from a variety of sources such as
grocery stores, restaurants, caterers, dairies, farmers, wholesale food distributors,
and other Health Department-approved sources.

This donated food—that would otherwise go to waste—is delivered free of charge to
emergency food providers in the metro Detroit area. The individuals and families
served are as diverse as the community’s residents – young and old, from all races
and faiths.

The Chapter is in the process of developing partnerships with local entities
that share our same goal of distributing facility related knowledge to our
membership community.  We are pleased to announce that we have begun to
work behind the scenes with representatives from Sustainable Facility
magazine.  Our hope is to bring our Chapter membership current up to date
information regarding sustainable trends within the industry.

Sustainable Facility magazine is dedicated to high-performance buildings and
optimal energy and resource management in commercial, institutional and
industrial facilities. Winner of the 2008 National ASBPE Azbee Award for
Publication Redesign, Sustainable Facility highlights industry news, green
facilities, and the latest trends and programs from national organizations.
Columnists and authors offer perspectives to guide facility managers, building
owners and energy management professionals in sustainable
decision-making.

You can visit Sustainable Facility online at:

Look forward to more information regarding this partnership as we continue to
develop it.  Thank you.
